Why Did I Stay So Long?

I’ve pondered this question often over the past few years. I think I’ve written a bit on the subject in this blog too. Mostly, I’ve thought I stayed with Christian Science because (1) it’s what I grew up with, it was familiar, and (2) I didn’t want to disappoint my parents.

Nihilism and Christian Science

A reader recently commented on a post, and in his comment made reference to Christian Science as a form of nihilism. This is a term I and I’m sure most of my readers have heard before, but have never necessarily connected it to Christian Science. I’ve always thought I had a pretty good grasp on what nihilism is, however I figured just for kicks, I’d look it up on-line. It turns out there is more to it than I thought, especially as it relates to Christian Science.

Don’t Let a Minor Become a Major

A reader recently commented on one of my posts, stating that they had been a ‘radical relier‘ on Christian Science for much of their life until they left Christian Science, and related a painful dental story. The last sentence of their comment really resonated strongly with me, and my own experience now as a former Christian Scientist.

Put This One On Ice Please!

The latest internet-based challenge to go around is the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. I’m honestly ambivalent about these sorts of things; however I can’t deny the good it’s done by raising not only awareness of this disease (it’s also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), but it’s also raised several million dollars to fund research into a cure (almost $10 million in Canada alone). To that end, I will donate some money to support ALS research, something I would not have otherwise thought to do if this challenge wasn’t happening. Want to get me to pour ice water over my head? You’ll have to nominate me.
