The Fine Print

Comment Policy:

Comments do not necessarily reflect the views of the author of this blog or any guest bloggers. All comments require approval before they are posted, so your comment will not appear immediately.

The rules:

  1. No spam.
  2. No advertising for products, services, blogs, or websites–unless the blog or website is directly related to the post topic, or the general theme of this blog.
  3. No personal attacks on any named or easily identifiable individual. Some leeway is allowed regarding Mary Baker Eddy or other historical figures who are no longer alive, as well as public figures (including Christian Science Church Directors and officials, Christian Science lecturers, Christian Science practitioners, teachers of Christian Science, and other Church spokespeople). If you’re just ranting without a solid and valid reason, your comment will be edited or it will not be posted.
  4. Criticism of religion is welcome and encouraged. However, bigoted attacks on people based on their religious beliefs and/or practices will not be tolerated (for example, if you rant about all Muslims being terrorists, your comment won’t be posted).
  5. Comments which are proselytizing in nature, in any manner, will not be posted. It’s fine to express that your faith has done wonderful things for youbut do not cross the line of telling everyone they need to follow your religious/spiritual path in order to attain eternal bliss or to avoid eternal damnation, or that your God is the One True God. This applies to comments that are supportive of Christian Science by demeaning or downplaying the experiences of those who speak against Christian Science. An example of this might be something like: “it’s a shame that you simply did not understand or experience the healing power of Christian Science in the way that I did!” or “if only you could experience salvation by letting Jesus into your life!”
  6. Comments that advocate for, or support violence or terrorism will not be posted, and will be reported to the proper authorities. This also applies to verbal threats of any kind.
  7. Comments with excessive profanity, which does not appear to serve any useful purpose, will either be edited or will not be posted. Profanity is like salt: the right amount makes something great; too much is distasteful.
  8. Racist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or any other comments that are bigoted, promote hate, or denigrate or marginalize people based on conditions over which they have no control, will not be posted. Comments containing hate speech may be reported to the proper authorities.
  9. Comments that are not relevant to the subject at-hand (ie. the post itself, or a conversation within a comment thread), will not be posted.
  10. Comments that advocate for, or elaborate on, unproven conspiracy theories will not be posted.
  11. Comments that are unnecessarily argumentative will not be posted.
  12. Comments approved for posting will only be removed at the request of the commenter, or at the discretion of the owner of this blog.
  13. Comments may be edited for length or content before being posted. Comments that have been edited will be duly noted, with a short explanation.

Occasionally, at the discretion of the owner of this blog, some comments that do not necessarily directly violate any of these rules, may not be approved for posting. If a commenter has a question or concern about why their comment was not posted, they can contact the owner of the blog via email.

PLEASE NOTE: Healthy debate is welcome. Comments supportive of, or in defence of Christian Science or other religions will be posted, as long as they do not violate any of the rules. However, please be aware that the owner of this blog and/or other readers will likely respond, and they may not be nice about it. Be prepared to intelligently defend your position, and/or have your feelings hurt. Any and all replies that do not violate the above-stated rules (please pay particular attention to rules 3-5, and 8) will be posted.

These policies are subject to change at any time.

Terms of Use:

All written material contained within this blog is copyrighted by the owner of this blog, with the exception of guest posts, which are under the copyright of the individual authors. Use and/or duplication of this material without written permission of the blog owner is not permitted. Excerpts and links may be used, as long as full and clear attribution is given, and a link to the source material is provided.

Notes:

Quoted material or information indirectly quoted or taken from other sources is either cited in footnotes to each post, or in-line within the post. When on-line sources are referenced, a link is provided within the footnote or bibliographic entry. The author of this blog cannot guarantee that all links are valid at all times. Links are provided for informational purposes only.

In the case of the works of Mary Baker Eddy, due to the frequency with which they are cited, they will be referenced within the text of the post, referencing only the book name, relevant pages, line numbers, and/or sections, rather than by full annotation in a footnote. Full bibliographic information on works by Mary Baker Eddy is in the Bibliography page.

Quotes from the Bible will reference the bible book, chapter, verse, and the name of the translation within the text of the post. While the King James Version is the generally preferred translation of English speaking Christian Science congregations, other translations will also be referenced.
