Why I’m doing this…

My regular readers may (or may not) know that I am involved as an editor and writer for the website ‘The Ex-Christian Scientist‘. It is increasingly becoming the main focus for my ‘work’ in the ex-Christian Scientist community, and why my posting here on this blog has become more infrequent. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to visit the site. It is certainly a resource I wish I had six years ago when I had the first inklings of my final departure from Christian Science.

This is a re-posting of my own recently published personal mission statement for the site.

My final departure from Christian Science began six years ago, when my Mom unexpectedly became ill and died, all within the span of about three months. She died in excruciating pain with a large tumour in her abdomen, all the while refusing any sort of medical intervention–not even pain abatement. She died in a Christian Science nursing facility before I was able to fly cross-country to see her. Later the same year, my Dad succumbed to untreated heart failure which had been going on for an estimated 5 – 7 years.

In collaboration with my fellow ex-Christian Scientist blogger at Kindism, I’m posting my answers to five common questions that many of us as former Christian Scientists are asked in one form or another by those who’ve never been Christian Scientists. Often, they’re baffled as to why anyone would believe in Christian Science and never go to a doctor.

The Ex-Christian Scientist: A New Resource for Former Christian Scientists

There’s a new website in town for former Christian Scientists, or those thinking of leaving Christian Science. The following is the official announcement of the launch of this website.

A group of former members of the Christian Science Church have launched a new website designed as a resource for people who have left or are considering leaving the Christian Science faith. Christian Science (not to be confused with Scientology) was founded by Mary Baker Eddy in the late 19th century and is perhaps best known as a sect that rejects medical treatment, advocating prayer exclusively for healing.
